Functional Safety of a system is an overall safety of equipment that is depending upon automatic protections. Every instrument has a probability of failure. SIL is a measure of safety system performance, or probability of failure on demand (PFD) for a Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) or Safety Instrumented System (SIS).
In order to ensure lesser failures of an instrument, SIL levels are assigned to each instrument. The higher the SIL Level of equipment, the lesser is the probability of failure. Since there is huge cost factor involved with the higher SIL level of the 6754, it gets important to ensure the correct requirement of SIL Level for an instrument.
