NDT & PDT Testing

Non-destructive and partially-destructive tests (NDT & PDT) is a wide group of analysis techniques used in industry that provide a comprehensive site investigation service to test steel & concrete structures. It determines & evaluates the suitability of structural material without causing damage to the structural integrity of a material. Some of the common NDT testing services offered by us are

Rebound Hammer

A rebound hammer consists of a spring-controlled mass that slides on a plunger within a tubular housing. The extent of rebound is a measure of surface hardness this value is designated as Rebound Number. Surface hardness is correlated with compressive and rebound numbers indicate compressive strength of concrete.

Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Tester

It is used for nondestructive testing and checking the quality of concrete. In this test, the strength and quality of concrete are assessed by measuring the velocity of an ultrasonic pulse passing through a concrete structure. Quality of concrete is classified based on ultrasonic wave speed where samples with the slowest speed are considered made of porous & poor quality concrete while samples with more than 4Km/s speed are considered excellent quality.

Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge

It is used for non-destructive measurement of the local thickness of a solid element like MS sections – Angle, Channel, I section, etc.  The ability to gauge thickness measurement without requiring access to both sides of the test piece, offers this technology a multitude of possible applications, especially in pipes & flats.

Laser Distance Meter

It measures long distances by sending a pulse of laser light to the target and measures the time it takes for the reflection to return. Distance meters have some advantages over tape like no bending, no sagging, and the choice of measuring unit and quick to use.

Dye Penetration Kit

It is used to detect flaws that are open to the surface in materials such as metals, glass, and other non-porous materials. The process works by capillary action which pulls the penetrant into the open flaw and then indicates the flaw areas after the application of the developer.

Thermography Camera

It is used for the detection of moisture behind walls, over ceilings, and under floors which is invisible to the human eye. An infrared camera detects infrared energy (heat) and converts it into an electronic signal, which is then processed to produce a thermal image. These detected areas are further investigated to find the source of water leakage & repair work is initiated.

Carbonation Kit

This kit contains an indicator that is sprayed on exposed concrete surfaces to measure the extent of carbonation in concrete. Carbonation of concrete is one of the main reasons for corrosion of reinforcement and hence it is detected to estimate the probability of corrosion in reinforcement.

Rebar Locator

This device is used to locate the embedded reinforcement bars inside the masonry and concrete with the use of an electromagnetic pulse. The scanner machine is also helpful in detecting embedded power lines, non-ferrous metals, and wood.

Half Cell Potential Meter

It is used to monitor the probability of corrosion in reinforcement. Corrosion is an electrochemical reaction that creates a potential difference, and consequently a corrosion current, between the anodic and cathode areas at the surface of the steel reinforcement. This current, or the potential distribution on the reinforcement surface, is what is of interest when measuring half-cell potential. The measured potential is used to classify the probability of corrosion with 3 different criticality levels.
